The challenge: We were looking for an interesting way to bring the latest configurator at Ford Motor Company to a large screen.
The solution: With some clever tweaks to the configurator UI, and caching of higher resolution images for the HD screen, I built a clever solution that with a pull and push gesture of the car on the iPad, it would ‘throw the car’ to the screen, and as you swiped through the angles, the car would rotate. In addition changing the colours would change the colour of the car on the screen.
It was a great exploration into an interesting and intuitive user gesture, and how to interact with the configurator on the large screen in a more impactful way.
I integrated the tech with the configurator for a number of Motor shows, where customers could interact with the configurator on the big screen. Qualitative feedback was very positive, we put the concept on hold until a new Configurator engine was built with high resolution imagery. I built the cached graphics for the Fiesta ST, but to build for every product line, it would have been too expensive at the time.
