The challenge: The brief was to “do something cool” with Augmented Reality.
The solution: After evaluating a number of different Augmented Reality platforms, I started building experiments in ‘posters coming to life’ with an initial still frame, being scanned by the Aurasma app, and then turning into the remainder of the video, which would stick to the poster.

After several iterations I developed two proof of concepts, one for the Fiesta with a 3D fiesta that would pop up on a postcard, and you could move and rotate the postcard and the car would move. I added a shadow in AR to the car to make it look like it was sitting on the postcard.

The other proof of concept was a ‘wheel change’ Augmented Reality experience, where I set it up in particular dealerships & events, and you could point the Augmented reality app at the wheel, and it would detect the wheel and overlay different alloys on the wheel – so you could see what the wheels looked like on the actual car.
Tech stack: Aurasma (Augmented Reality), 3D Studio Max (car rendering / modelling), Adobe Photoshop.
