This is my review for the new Apple MacBook Pro (13 inch plus touchbar). Overall I really really love it. However there are a few things that in my opinion suck (that shouldn’t) which is a shame. Conversely there are a lot of things that are really great, so let’s start there:
Things I love about the new MacBook Pro with touchbar:
1) The Touchbar is just beautiful to look at; it really is. And it’s also surprisingly usable in many ways – I really love it, and it’s certainly not a gimmick, it’s definitely an innovation.
2) The touchpad, it’s super big, or bigger than it ever was which I really love.
3) The touchbar previews the next slides in the touchbar, which is pretty awesomes!
4) The screen is simply beautiful.
5) TouchId enablement to unlock the laptop is cool, as is ApplePay through the browser!
6) The speed – wow, it’s super fast, even with the low specs I’ve gone for, it’s still super-performing miles better than my 5 year old MacBook Pro with all the upgrades.
7) The keyboard ride, noise, and feel. Initially I didn’t like, but since using it lot’s I think it’s miles better than any Mac before it, so it’s definitely a thing I love now!
8) MacOS enhancements and iCloud awesomeness; the iCloud Drive integration is brilliant, as are many many features of the latest MacOS – I love it.
Things that I think suck about the new MacBook Pro with touchbar:
1) The ports, yes, with only USB-C ports, it’s super annoying that I have no HDMI output or USB output or SD-Card reader…. To counter that, the dongle attachments are quite good, but this sucks somewhat still.
2) Clicking on the touchpad (especially click and dragging) doesn’t work properly any more (or certainly not as expected) – this may be a learning thing, or settings, but it sucks at the moment.
3) The screen bevel feels too big at the top, making me dislike the look initially, however it’s really grown on me 😀
3) Apple TouchID stops working sometimes, I’m not sure if it’s a problem with my setup? And so far my Apple Pay transactions have all failed being flagged as fraudulent, I’m hopeful this will be resolved by being back in the UK.
Overall verdict; my overall thoughts are that is the best laptop I have had, even though there are some features that are missing, that quite frankly should not be missing!
