{"id":253,"date":"2023-06-03T12:18:15","date_gmt":"2023-06-03T11:18:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kevingordon.org.uk\/tech\/?post_type=portfolio&#038;p=253"},"modified":"2023-06-03T12:52:44","modified_gmt":"2023-06-03T11:52:44","slug":"throw-to-screen-configurator","status":"publish","type":"portfolio","link":"https:\/\/www.kevingordon.org.uk\/tech\/portfolio\/throw-to-screen-configurator\/","title":{"rendered":"Configure &#038; throw to screen"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The challenge:&nbsp;<\/strong>We were looking for an interesting way to bring the latest configurator at Ford Motor Company to a large screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The solution:\u00a0<\/strong>With some clever tweaks to the configurator UI, and caching of higher resolution images for the HD screen, I built a clever solution that with a pull and push gesture of the car on the iPad, it would \u2018throw the car\u2019 to the screen, and as you swiped through the angles, the car would rotate. In addition changing the colours would change the colour of the car on the screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"765\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kevingordon.org.uk\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/throw-to-screen-configurator-1024x765.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-255\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kevingordon.org.uk\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/throw-to-screen-configurator-1024x765.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.kevingordon.org.uk\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/throw-to-screen-configurator-300x224.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.kevingordon.org.uk\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/throw-to-screen-configurator-768x573.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.kevingordon.org.uk\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/throw-to-screen-configurator.jpeg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was a great exploration into an interesting and intuitive user gesture, and how to interact with the configurator on the large screen in a more impactful way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I integrated the tech with the configurator for a number of Motor shows, where customers could interact with the configurator on the big screen. Qualitative feedback was very positive, we put the concept on hold until a new Configurator engine was built with high resolution imagery. I built the cached graphics for the Fiesta ST, but to build for every product line, it would have been too expensive at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tech stack:&nbsp;<\/strong>iOS development, Objective C, HTML\/CSS\/Javascript<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I developed a solution to enhance Ford Motor Company&#8217;s configurator by allowing users to interact with it on a large screen.
