To change the Fire Stick’s network, when you haven’t got a remote, if you have two people with smart phones, you can get this sorted.
I took my fully configured Fire Stick on holiday, but forgot the remote. Oh no, I then downloaded the Fire Stick app, but alas as the Fire Stick only knew my home network, I could not use the remote and the fire stick.
Then I came up with a cunning plan:
- On the first smart phone, download the Fire Stick App.
- On the first smart phone, Logon to the same Amazon account as the Fire Stick.
- On the second smart phone, change the name to the name of your home broadband (that the Fire Stick is expecting), and change the password of the hotspot to be the same password as your home broadband.
- On the first smart phone, connect to the second smart phone’s hotspot, which is spoofing the home broadband.
- Reboot your Fire Stick, and it will connect to the spoofed home network.
- On the Fire Stick app, connect to the Fire Stick, and go to network settings, and change to a local WIFI network where you are on holiday.
- Now change the first smart phone to connect to the local WIFI network.
- Then change the second smart phone back to original device name and hotspot password and turn off the hotspot.
- You can now control the Fire Stick with the first mobile phone, yes!
You are welcome.
