PS3 and Apple Airport Extreme[ 12th March 2011, 08:34:16 ]

This article talks through how I got the Sony PS3 and Apple Airport Extreme (Time Capsule) wireless router to work together.

Basically I tried everything; playing around with router settings, UPnP (Universal Plug and Play), permissions. Nothing worked. What it was is that I had connected the PS3 on the guest network on the AE.

There is an option in the Airport utility on the Mac to allow the devices to see each other on a guest network, but there was an issue with PC that was wired seeing the PS3 (which was on the guest network), so I swapped over the PS3 to use the main network, and that then worked.

For PC I use this Media Server http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/

For Mac I use Nullriver MediaLink http://www.nullriver.com/ note you can try it out before you buy. And I had some questions regarding the above issues which MediaLink helped me with - their customer support is fantastic.

Note that if playback is choppy turn on the transcoder (&buffer) to ensure playback is smooth.
