Interesting links 004 [ 8th November 2008, 17:17:09 ]
Here are a selection of links I've found recently that I think are interesting or funny, hope you enjoy.
- Generate random text, quite useful when trying to create pages with dummy copy. For example: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Fusce non velit.
- Create a screenshot of your site works pretty well on pure html sites (without flash I think) but looks pretty cool (see screenshot of my site).
- Window music - music from just windows sound effects, really good :-)
- Those darn captchas, oh this is really funny :-)
- Word count and ranking, this is a useful utility when working out what words you use most often in a piece of text, similar lines to my Reducing repeated words utility
- Do you know who I am? - Funny video, do you know who I am, yeah nice one :-)
- Moronic user comments? - I don't think everyones user comments are moronic :-)
- Do one thing today, a novel idea, please can someone buy me a pad of this stationary?
- notalwaysright.com - this site is really good, I've never worked in customer service, and this site definitely could put you off! I have seen some of these things happen, and its hard to know whether to laugh or be shocked. I have to admit I've done some stuff worthy of being on there before :-)
- Create images online, looks really good. I've been won over by documents online, I mainly use google docs for word processing and spreadsheets now, its so handy, it doesn't matter where I am; at work, in an internet cafe in Prague or on a mobile I've got instant access to all my documents, really handy. As I say I've been won over by online documents, so I'm willing to be won over by online image editing software.
- Human powered search engine - genius! I asked whether Barcelona was close to the beach and found out that its walkable, and got an answer straight away - brilliant! However since having the software installed on my pc I keep getting asked really dodgy questions. Really good idea, but looks like lots of dodgy people are using this unfortunately. I've since tried it again and can't seem to get it working... A much better site for getting answers is Yahoo Answers. I can highly recommend this, you gets points for answering questions, so I've found questions get answered pretty much instantly, and you get a variety of answers compared to the human powered search engine
- Create your own work cartoon, this a cartoon that is very funny - I love this one, this is just great
- Supercoder - wow if you can code with this then you are definitely a supercoder!
- Little music maker, click on the cartoon characters and they'll make a noise, turn them on and off and you get a good tune going. This is great.
- How good at Computer Science are you? - me I'm absolutely awesome, definitely log(n) :-) (or would like to be anyway)
- Really cool photoshop tutorials I've really included this here because I'm finding these useful, but someone else may find them of use also. (So far I've had a go at the robot frog)
- Texting on a motorbike, this is an incredible video, amazing, and what on earth are the other drivers doing?
- Mario theme on bottles, basically they've got bottles full of water and drive a remote control car past them which hits the bottles making the tune. They do a couple of goes that go wrong, its worth watching the whole clip because this is really good.
